Morning, campers. Coffee time.
Just a quick video about the fact that Trump had a meeting yesterday, and everybody in the Oval Office was not wearing a tie. Were they on the piss? Casual Friday? No, I think it’s more symbolic than that.
About 15 years ago, I went to a talk in Manchester by a guy called Darren Dia, I think I’ve got his name right. A very interesting guy who was talking about the hidden meanings in words that are used all around us, like spells. One of my favorite ones was the sign above most supermarkets says “entrance,” which is really “enthrance.” And if you go in a supermarket, you can see people blindly shopping and just putting poison into their trolley.
He also talked about the suit and tie, the traditional business or the traditional uniform, really, of commerce. And he pointed something out that is blaringly obvious now, but at the time I was like, “Oh my god.” And consequently, I have worn a tie about once since then. And that is the tie and the collar and cuffs. You know, where else do you see a collar and cuffs? In a chain gang, with slaves. Slaves wear, or prisoners both wear, collar and cuffs, and the tie ties them to something. So taking off the ties is an extremely good sign. There you go. Thought for the day.
