ESCAPING THE MATRIX

“I can escape from the world I see by giving up attack thoughts.”
“The idea for today contains the only way out of fear that will ever succeed. Nothing else will work; everything else is meaningless. But this way cannot fail. Every thought you have makes up some segment of the world you see. It is with your thoughts, then, that we must work, if your perception of the world is to be changed.” - A Course In Miracles W.23.1
As we catalog the day to day events occurring around us, it is difficult to believe that our thoughts create the world we perceive. Few of us would consciously choose a reality of lockdowns, masks, “distancing”, and forced injections, a reality that people across the globe are in the throes of either witnessing or experiencing. But when we consider the power of our subconscious minds, the repressed trauma and the programs of fear and guilt to which humanity has subjected itself, the concept that the outer world is born from thought begins to make more sense.
“You see the world that you have made, but you do not see yourself as the image maker. You cannot be saved from the world, but you can escape from its cause. This is what salvation means, for where is the world you see when its cause is gone?” W.23.3.3
Like many advanced spiritual teachings, the Course in Miracles lesson cited above attempts to help us release the disempowering narrative that tells us we are merely victims of outside forces that operate beyond our control and replace it with the knowledge that we are entirely responsible for all of our experiences.
The ego, which identifies with weakness, will generally respond to this idea by clinging to its disempowering sense of victimhood. It will either rush to its own defense or to protect what it perceives as the innocent casualties of the world, reinforcing its position as an effect rather than as the cause. While its argument may seem reasonable to the intellect, we can easily see through its facade by tuning into the wisdom of our soul.
Our inner being knows without a doubt that by accepting responsibility as creators we are finally stepping beyond old programs of lack, limitation, and fear and into our divinity. Most have not yet mustered the fortitude to take this important step, but with each new day the universe is urging us forward with less and less gentleness, promising through glimpses and glimmerings that when we do make this collective spiritual leap the earth will step up its own transformational process; for it is only when we acknowledge our power as creator beings that we are able to consciously change the world we see.
”There is no point in trying to change the world. It is incapable of change because it is merely an effect. But there is indeed a point in changing your thoughts about the world. Here you are changing the cause. The effect will change automatically.” W.23.3.3
Once we have accepted our role as the creator of that which arises within our experience, the real work commences. It naturally follows that we then begin to train our minds. This is accomplished when we commit our attention to what is going on within rather than without. As we observe our feelings and then trace them back to our thoughts, we are able to identify and release those thoughts and consequent feelings that are not of a peaceful and loving nature.
As we work through this process of purification, we are forced to confront our shadow. We are prompted to address our deepest fears, our feelings of inadequacy, layers upon layers of guilt and shame, and confusion and trauma of which we may not have even been aware.
To the ego, which believes itself to be separate and alone, the process of purification is overwhelming, but when we acknowledge the light shining brilliantly inside us, our strength is never questioned and our eventual success is assured.
As we meet the darkness within ourselves with love, acceptance, and forgiveness, we are truly healing the world from the inside out. We are able to offer the world an entirely new perspective, one that sees and therefore extends a reality of unity rather than division and love rather than fear. It is from this open and purified state of consciousness that miraculous transformation finally begins to occur.
“Vision already holds a replacement for everything you think you see now. Loveliness can light your images, and so transform them that you will love them, even though they were made of hate. For you will not be making them alone.” W.23.4.1
Each of us is here to save the world. We are here to discover the light shining within our hearts, and to recognize this very same light radiating from the center of everything there is.
As we accept what appears to exist outside ourselves back into our hearts, the beauty and joy as well as the darkness and despair, we are seeing beyond the third dimensional programs of suffering and divide to which humanity has until recently been so unconsciously aligned, and we are making the choice for wholeness and for peace.
This inclusive, light-filled vision that sees with the heart, this unified, nondual consciousness, cannot help but be reflected in a world we will eventually realize is a mirror for what we have chosen to believe.
